Below, we have created an introductory curriculum to help your FinancED branch get started. The topics cover basic financial literacy skills, from budgeting and saving to an introduction to sustainable investing. We recommend supplementing this curriculum with interactive activities like budgeting simulations and Shark-Tank investment challenges. We highly recommend incorporating resources from organizations like Khan Academy and Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF).
For students attending a FinancED workshop for the first time, this session should introduce them to what FinancED is, the importance of financial literacy, and career opportunities in finance. Try to cover the basics of budgeting and saving. The workshop could be followed by an interactive activity where students can create a simple budget or participate in a shark-tank themed activity to pitch what they've learned.
Introduce students to fundamental concepts in investing in the stock market, including the basics of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, as well as the difference between short-term and long-term investing. Students should also learn about stock market trends, the importance of diversification, and the risks and rewards of investing!
Introduce students to fundamental concepts in sustainable investing, such as the difference between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria, socially responsible investing (SRI), and impact investing. teach students about the applications of sustainable investing in various industries and its evolution over time, highlighting how financial decisions can drive both economic returns and positive environmental and social impact.
