FinancED depends on youth volunteers to keep driving our mission forward. We believe the best way to connect with our students is through peer-to-peer engagement, where young people can relate to one another. That’s why, if you’re a student passionate about financial literacy, sustainability, or simply helping others, we highly encourage you to join your local FinancED branch. If there isn’t a volunteer group in your area, you can still make a difference by taking the initiative and starting a FinancED club at your school/university.
Recruiting volunteers for your FinancED branch can be challenging. Here are some recommendations:
- Spread the word through personal connections first—this is the easiest and most effective way for new branches to recruit. Encourage your friends to join, and consider partnering with other clubs that focus on community service or financial literacy.
-Reach out to other FinancED branches for recruitment support and advice. This will help your branch gain traction and demonstrate its legitimacy to those interested in joining.
- Social media is a powerful tool for posting updates, promoting upcoming events, and sharing volunteer opportunities. You can promote your branch within your school by putting up flyers and requesting to be featured in the school announcements.
As a FinancED Ambassador, you will work towards promoting financial literacy and sustainability throughout the community. Local FinancED branches regularly visit underprivileged schools, ranging from elementary to senior high. At these schools, our ambassadors teach students essential financial skills (such as budgeting, saving, investing, and entrepreneurship), provide access to resources so they can continue learning independently, offer career counseling for students interested in finance or sustainable business after high school, and educate students on the importance of sustainable financial practices for the future economy.
Local FinancED branches may also collaborate with other branches to host events outside of schools open to the whole community, such as workshops or speaker series, where industry professionals share their experiences in finance and sustainability. These events provide students with the opportunity to meet like-minded peers from other schools while exploring their interests in greater depth.
Official members of FinancED branches are required to volunteer at least once per month during the school year, though individual branches may increase this minimum requirement. Additionally, members do not need prior experience in finance, and we encourage any student interested in helping their community to join FinancED. The only requirement to becoming a FinancED Ambassador is completing the safety screening process and to interview with the head of your branch.
